Skip
Neilson
{Lead Guitar and Vocals} grew up in Dallas, Texas and played with several
bands while in his teens and twenties that gained wide popularity in the
Southwest and Midwest regions playing clubs, concerts, festivals and the
college circuit. Most notable
of these bands were Texas Rose, The Deryk Jones Party and
Dallas Alice. Some
tidbits:
- In
1972, Skip decided to return to SMU in the fall to continue his university
education. Since members
of the Deryk Jones Party wanted to continue traveling, Skip
left the band - and was replaced by Stevie Vaughn who at time
had not begun using “Ray” in his name yet.
- Both
Texas Rose and the Deryk Jones Party had several record
releases that included original songs by Skip.
The Deryk Jones Party had releases on Bang Records
whose artists included Neil Diamond and Rose Colored Glass.
Texas Rose released an LP, “Need Your Love” and
single on STA Records with the single “Don’t Hold On”, written
by Skip, receiving the most airplay.
